Support for the Performing Arts

The Seaborn Broughton & Walford Foundation (SBWF) welcomes applications for grants from both performing arts companies and individual performing artists.

Support for a performing arts company is capped at $50,000 and for an individual artist $10,000 in any one year.

SBWF FAVOURS APPLICATIONS THAT

  • Have a significant Australian content
  •
Reflect the diversity of Australian culture
  • Create employment for Australian artists
  • Demonstrate originality and imagination
  • Have a clear artistic objective
 supported by a realistic budget
  •
Have the potential to add value to the Australian performing arts
  • Bring Australian theatre to regional and city audiences
  • Bring Australian productions to international audiences.

PERFORMING ARTS COMPANIES

SBWF will give special consideration to companies with a track record of artistic and/or popular success that receive minimal or no assistance from the State or Federal funding bodies. However this does not exclude applications from government funded companies for grants to support special projects of nation significance.

Companies are advised to apply for production and performance expenses rather than administration costs.

Preference will be given to projects that expand the company’s normal business.
Applicants might consider projects such as:

  • Commissioning an original play or performance
  • Developing an original play or performance
  • The production of an original play or performance
  • Assistance with international tours of Australian work
  • The appointment of theatre practitioners eg. trainee directors
  •
Organising conferences for theatre practitioners
  •
Conducting professional training activities for the profession.

At the present time, support for a performing arts company will not exceed $50,000 in any one year.

Grants are conditional upon SBWF receiving appropriate acknowledgment in programs and publicity material relating to the project to which the funds have been applied.

SBWF would be pleased to receive information regarding performance dates, times and venues of events the Foundation grant supports.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMING ARTISTS

SB&W Foundation welcomes applications for financial assistance from individual directors, actors, designers and other performing artists to:

  • undertake a specific production or performance
  • take up a secondment to an established company
  • attend conferences and theatre festivals in Australia or abroad
  • further their professional training in Australia
  • undertake training courses unavailable in Australia
  • to develop plays that extend the form and content of Australian
theatre

and for such other activities as the SBW Foundation Board may approve.

Preference will be given to individual artists who already have a well-established professional career in Australia.

SBWF will not consider applications

  • to attend basic theatre training courses in Australia
  • to undertake academic research
  • to develop performance projects.

At the present time support for individuals will not exceed $10000 in any one year.

Grants are conditional upon SBWF receiving appropriate acknowledgment in programs and publicity material relating to the project to which the funds have been applied.

SBWF would be pleased to receive information regarding performance dates, times and venues of events the Foundation supports.

An application for assistance will not be considered until the Board has received an assessment and acquittal of a project previously assisted by SB&W Foundation.
